Honors Courses Fall 2008
A Greek survey course explores the central features of ancient Greek culture: literature, philosophy, art, and science. A&S1119 can be used to satisfy 3 hours of either humanities or social science credit (please check with your college first).
An introduction to disciplinary perspectives exposes students to UNO scholars from various fields of study. Honors students can enroll in the course up to 3 times for credit. A&S2999 is a one-credit course. It can be used to satisfy a humanities or social science requirement (please check with your college first). For a list of the lecturers, click here.
This course is an introduction to the study of music in the world’s religions. Viewing music as an important component of religious experience, this class will introduce the student to many types of religious music of the world, with careful attention to styles of chant, liturgy, and musical expression within specific religious communities. A&S 3099 can be used to satisfy 3 hours of either humanities or social science credit.
This writing course supplements and is taken concurrently with A&S 1119. It prepares Honors Students to take the English Proficiency exam and satisfies the university’s requirement for ENGL 1158
A general introduction to the study and appreciation of drama. ENGL 2209 satisfies 3 hours of the university’s 6-credit requirement for literature.
This intensive writing course on the art, literature, and philosophy of Ancient Greece is taken concurrently with A&S 1119 and serves as the supplemental class for students who have earned ENGL 1158 credit. ENGL 2279 satisfies 3 hours of the university’s 6-credit requirement for literature.
Students study the evolutionary history of the earth, including phytsical changes and an introduction to the record of life through time. EES 1000 satisfies 3 hours of science credit .
PHYS 1006 focuses on naked-eye astronomy, the history and development of astronomy, and the comparative planetology of the solar system. PHYS 1006 satisfies 3 hours of science credit.
Emphasizing original, independent, and creative thinking, as well as vigorous class discussion, this class explores the institutions and processes of the U.S. federal government. POLI 2151 can be used to satisfy a social science requirement.
A general introduction to the scientific study of the behavior of organisms, PSYC 1009 satisfies 3 hours of social science credit.
This course discuss in small group format, the optional challenges of college adjustment and life planning for academically gifted students. Topics include time management, course selection, study techniques, and generally how to get the most out of your collegiate honors experience. This course counts as Honors elective.
